We’re also preparing to become a publicly traded company, a once-in-a-lifetime career opportunity for everyone who joins our team. If you’re looking for a company that takes care of its people – and its customers – and has a track record of doing big things, get ready to love it here.

Economical is the first federally regulated mutual property and casualty insurance company to pursue demutualization under the new government regulations. In preparation for an IPO as part of its demutualization process, it is seeking a legal “point person” to play an integral role in advising on the legal aspects of this process. Responsibilities will include guiding the execution of the Company’s corporate finance, M&A and governance activities, assisting with the corporate secretarial function, handling public disclosure, interacting with the relevant regulatory bodies and instructing external counsel. This position will report to the General Counsel and be located in downtown Toronto.

The ideal candidate will have 6 – 10 years securities and M&A experience with a minimum of 3 years in a major corporate transactional law firm. You will be seen as the specialist in this area of law, so you should have the confidence to be decisive, work independently and have extensive experience taking carriage of IPO and M&A transactions. As you will be a core member of the demutualization team, it will also be imperative that you be able to work effectively within a team. You will have the ability to take a leadership role in this area and have input into the direction and strategy carried out in this area of Economical’s business.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play a core role in this demutualization – the first of its kind in Canada under the new regulations. Long term career growth and development opportunities may be available. The environment is professional, team-oriented and friendly. Economical is working with NagataConnex Executive Legal Search to find the perfect candidate for this role. If you are interested in this opportunity, please forward your material to Lorene Nagata or Lesa Ong at or contact them for a confidential discussion.
