HOOPP continues to grow, both in size and complexity of its operations, and it is therefore seeking a Legal Counsel, Investments, to join its legal department on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Investments, the successful candidate will play an integral role in the Legal Services, Investments team. This individual will support the Investment Management and Investment Finance teams with respect to a wide range of investments and related regulatory and ancillary documentation, and will identify and manage investment legal risk. This person will also lead work projects from a legal perspective, including new investment initiatives and assisting with the implementation of new policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, self-confident individual who takes a practical approach to providing legal support and advice, with 5-9 years of legal experience in public and private investment transactions, structured finance and/or secured lending gained at a leading law firm or as in-house counsel, with at least 3-4 years of private practice experience. Experience with derivatives, repos and securities lending will be an asset. Any experience with other fixed income, securities laws and/or corporate finance, will also be of interest. As the successful candidate will be expected to work with and advise the Investment Management and Investment Finance groups, they must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) and be a team player. Client-focused, strong business acumen and the ability to juggle competing interests are essential qualities for success in this results-oriented organization.
