LEGAL COUNSEL, COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE AND LEASING (5-7 years experience)

Our client, Loblaw Companies Limited (“Loblaw”), is Canada’s food and pharmacy leader and the nation’s largest retailer. With a network of 2,500 corporate and independently operated stores in communities across the country, it employs close to 200,000 Canadians, making it one of Canada’s largest private sector employers. Recently named as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers (2018), Greater Toronto’s Top Employers (2018) and Canada’s Best Diversity Employers (2017), Loblaw clearly values and respects its employees and has created an excellent environment in which to work. Loblaw continues to anticipate and deliver on customers’ needs in a rapidly evolving industry – harnessing technology and relationships to deliver new and exciting multi-channel, personalized shopping options.

Loblaw’s Real Estate legal team oversees over 2,500 leases for the Loblaw Companies’ locations, including Loblaws, Fortinos and Shoppers Drug Mart stores. In addition to the leases, the real estate team manages all other real estate matters, including acquisitions/dispositions, and advises on issues related to redevelopment, municipal, environmental and expropriation matters that may impact their stores. This group is now seeking a Legal Counsel to join its team. This individual will report directly to the Senior Director, Real Estate, and be located in its head office in Brampton, however, there is flexibility to work from home and in other Weston companies’ offices in the GTA.

The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of commercial leasing and commercial real estate experience gained with a major firm and/or corporation. Any experience in environmental or expropriation law will be of interest. You will also need to be a strong collaborator and communicator, able to take initiative and be a team player. The ability to juggle competing obligations in a fast-paced environment will be required to succeed in this role.

Loblaw is committed to being socially responsible by respecting the environment, sourcing with integrity, making a positive difference in its communities, reflecting our nation’s diversity and being a great place to work.
