Litigation Partner (10+ Years’ Experience)

Laishley Reed LLP is a boutique commercial litigation firm located in downtown Toronto. Its founding partners, Russell Laishley and Chris Reed, were previously Co-Managing Partners of a full-service Bay Street law firm before setting up Laishley Reed LLP in 2000, a firm that prides itself on providing the highest quality of client service, while being a great place to work for its lawyers and staff. Its clients range from high net worth individuals to large corporations, and its lawyers not only enjoy an excellent reputation with their clients, but also amongst their peers in the legal community. As a result, they routinely receive referrals from other lawyers for their respective areas of expertise.

With a current team of 5 lawyers, the firm is seeking an experienced litigator who would be able to play an integral role in the future development of the firm. Ideally, this individual will be a commercial litigation lawyer, with a portable practice that is complimentary to the lawyers’ current areas of litigation expertise, which include tax, insurance, employment, condominium, insolvency, and general corporate and commercial litigation, such as shareholder and breach of contract disputes.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of ‘hands on’ litigation experience gained at a leading law firm or litigation boutique, and will have a portable practice of at least $400,000. In addition to the above noted current practices, areas of expertise that would also be of interest include estates litigation and construction litigation. You will be working independently on your own files – however, the lawyers frequently discuss file strategies with one another, to ensure that they are providing the highest standard of service to their clients.

This is a unique opportunity to run your own practice in a collegial firm that offers excellent administrative support, ongoing mentorship, and good work/life balance in a professional and informal environment. The cost of practice is reasonable, as the firm’s philosophy is not about generating a large profit from its partners, but is about the desire to be excellent lawyers who enjoy where and with whom they work.
