Choice Properties’ portfolio of properties is internally managed, operated and led by an experienced management team with a strong understanding of the Canadian real estate sector. It is currently seeking a VP, Legal to join its legal team, reporting directly to the SVP, General Counsel. This position is located on the subway line at St Clair and Yonge.

You will provide legal support in the areas of leasing, property management, real estate transactions, development and construction. You will also have the opportunity to assist in managing the legal team, and get involved with co-ownerships and financing matters. You will have a seat at the table, working directly with key business decision makers at Choice in a collaborative manner. The individual in this position will be considered for succession planning purposes.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 12 years of commercial real estate experience gained from a law firm or in-house with a real estate company. Significant experience with leasing (ideally landlord side) and real estate transactions are a must. Experience with financing and corporate / commercial matters is an asset. In this senior role, an understanding of the business side of running a legal department, such as managing external counsel, handling a legal budget and negotiating fee arrangements will be required. As this is a growing and ever-changing environment, the capacity to be flexible, decisive and have business acumen will be important. The ability to take a leadership role, mentor and understand the importance of top-end customer service will be essential to succeed in this role.
