Choice Properties’ portfolio of properties is internally managed, operated and led by an experienced management team with a strong understanding of the Canadian real estate sector. It is currently seeking a lawyer as its Environmental Lead to own, develop and implement its environmental program across its expanding portfolio. Reporting directly to a Director, Legal Counsel, you will build upon the existing environmental program to minimize risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and serve as a subject matter expert, providing legal and strategic advice to internal stakeholders, including the Transactions, Development, Construction, Operations and Leasing teams, as well as senior business leaders. This position is conveniently located along the subway line in the Weston Centre at Yonge and St Clair, with a hybrid work arrangement.
The ideal candidate will have 4 – 5 years of environmental experience gained from a law firm or in-house with a real estate company or consultancy. To succeed in this role, you will need exceptional interpersonal skills, strong project management skills, deep technical environmental knowledge and the ability to prioritize and take initiative. You should have experience reviewing and interpreting environmental reports, and similar site and designated substance assessments, surveys and inspections, as well as leading and interacting with external environmental consultants. In addition, the ability to work independently, communicate effectively and draft policies, reports, memoranda and briefing notes will also be required. Prior experience with risk management, environmental insurance, hazardous material and designated substance management, and/or occupational health and safety will also be regarded as an asset.
