Loblaw’s Legal department plays an important role in the development of these innovative operations and services. Reporting directly to Senior Director, Legal, the Legal department is now seeking a Legal Counsel, Privacy, to join its head office. This role will be responsible for providing legal, risk and strategic advice on a wide range of privacy, cybersecurity and data management matters to the loyalty, digital and media businesses, enterprise technology group and the Data Trust Office. This will include supporting privacy breach responses, including investigations, notifications and remediation. This individual will have the opportunity to split time between Loblaw’s head office in Brampton as well as in offices in downtown Toronto and North York in a hybrid arrangement.
The ideal candidate will have 5 – 8 years of privacy experience gained from a major firm and/or corporation. Privacy knowledge specific to evolving technology, CCPA, GDPR and health will be of great interest. As you will be involved in drafting and advising on complex privacy provisions in commercial contracts, excellent drafting and communication skills and knowledge of PIPEDA will be required. Strong time management skills and a natural curiosity as well as the ability to multitask will be needed in this varied practice. An ability to build relationships will be required to succeed in this role as you will be working directly with the Data Trust Office and business groups from across the Company.
