The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) is the operator of Toronto – Lester B. Pearson International Airport (Toronto Pearson). Toronto Pearson is Canada’s busiest airport and one of the largest international passenger airports in North America. It is a hub for the movement of people and goods across the country, continent and around the globe. It has been named “Best Large Airport in North America serving more than 40 million passengers” for six of the last seven years by Airports Council International.
Recently GTAA launched Pearson LIFT, a capital plan spanning more than a decade, representing significant investment into Toronto Pearson’s facilities through several construction programs aimed at preparing Canada’s largest airport for the challenges and opportunities of the coming years and beyond.
In order to assist with this growth, the GTAA has a well-developed and high-functioning Legal Department. It is now seeking a Legal Counsel who will be responsible for providing legal advice about a variety of commercial matters, including competitive bidding processes, purchase contracts, health and safety issues, information and operational technology m, commercial leasing, privacy and airport regulation. Working closely with the business groups as a trusted partner, you will have the opportunity to advise and participate in strategic discussions. This hybrid position (in office approx. 3 times per week) is located at Toronto Pearson (accessible from downtown via UP) and will report to the Assistant General Counsel.
The ideal candidate will have at least 4-8 years of corporate / commercial experience, ideally with some of the experience gained from in house. Any privacy, technology, or diversity, equity and inclusion experience will be of interest. You approach your work with a commercial mindset and a sense of urgency. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as the ability to build relationships with the business groups will also be key components of your success. The ability to prioritize different tasks and the flexibility to interact with stakeholders from various departments will be necessary to succeed in this role.
