The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) is the operator of Toronto Pearson International Airport. Toronto Pearson is Canada’s busiest airport, and one of the largest international passenger airports in North America. It is a hub for the movement of people and goods across the country, continent and around the globe. For the 3rd year running, is among Canada’s Best Employers in Forbes’ annual ranking and the only airport to appear on the list. The focus of the GTAA is to transform the passenger experience with ambitious plans to continue to expand and improve its buildings and facilities. Recently GTAA launched Pearson LIFT, a capital plan spanning more than a decade, representing significant investment into Toronto Pearson’s facilities through several construction programs aimed at preparing Canada’s largest airport for the challenges and opportunities of the coming years and beyond.
In order to assist with this growth, the GTAA has been building a top-end infrastructure legal team and is now seeking to add to this group. This individual will work on major infrastructure projects from the procurement stage through to completion, including responding to bidders’ questions, reviewing of documents, advising on risk, working with senior counsel to prepare briefs and presentations and handling claims. You will instruct external counsel, and interact with the business groups, providing legal advice and participating in strategic discussions. In addition to project work, there is an opportunity to broaden your generalist legal skills, working on a healthy mix of corporate/commercial work. This position is hybrid (in office approx. 3 times per week), located at Toronto Pearson (accessible from downtown via UP) and will report to the Assistant General Counsel. Total target compensation, including salary and bonus, will be $150,000 – $190,000. This position is to fill an existing vacancy.
We are seeking a candidate with 2-4 years of construction law experience (ideally, on both the solicitor and litigation side), gained from a well-respected firm or corporation. Experience working on large projects will be highly valued as will experience negotiating and drafting construction contracts, RFP documents, advising on project risk and taking an active role on construction projects. Experience with construction litigation management and project procurement will also be of interest. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as the ability to build relationships with the business groups, will also be key components of your success. You are self-motivated, efficient and a “doer” and you have the ability to juggle competing projects and interests.
The GTAA is a unique place to work – it is growing and evolving to meet the changing needs of air travelers and to achieve its bold strategic goals. It values respect and integrity and offers an environment that allows for career development for enthusiastic employees and is supportive and collaborative.
