Backed by Birch Hill Equity Partners, in the last 4 years, Yorkville has experienced unprecedented growth and is seeking a VP, Legal & General Counsel to oversee the legal function. This senior role will participate in strategic and management level discussions on a broad range of matters within Yorkville University and Toronto Film School including, commercial agreements, governance and policy development, privacy, employment and litigation management. In addition to managing a legal report, you will work with all levels of stakeholders, including senior management, Board members and faculty, across all departments.
This hybrid position is located in downtown Toronto and reports to the CFO. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 12 years of corporate / commercial experience gained with a leading law firm or in house. Any prior experience with the higher education industry, commercial IT contracts, data privacy/PIPEDA compliance, or working with Private Equity transactions will be of interest. Strong drafting, negotiation, communication and relationship building skills will be essential to succeed in this role as will the ability to juggle a number of competing issues. In addition, you should be pragmatic, organized and self-motivated. Lastly, the desire to take ownership in your portfolio or work and a genuine interest in the higher education industry will be required. This role is to fill an existing vacancy.
