Our Legal team is seeking to fill a fulltime position based in its downtown Toronto office. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of in-house and/or private practice mining experience gained at a top law firm or corporate. This role will focus on supporting BHP’s global Exploration team and North American legacy assets (consisting of several closed mines). You will support exploration deals, including negotiating and advising on earn-in agreements, option agreements, joint venture agreements, and supporting the Exploration team with ensuring regulatory compliance in multiple jurisdictions globally. Working with a broad range of business groups, you will need the ability to tackle problems, determine practical solutions and build relationships with internal clients. This role reports to the Head of Exploration and Legacy Assets Legal, based in downtown Toronto.
This position provides long-term career development opportunities to move internally, including globally. As you are working with BHP’s global offices, you will be required to accommodate colleagues in different time zones and periodic travel. It will be important that you are able to take initiative on matters, instruct external counsel and build relationships across the company, both within and outside of Canada.
