The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) is the operator of Toronto Pearson International Airport. Toronto Pearson is Canada’s busiest airport and one of the largest international passenger airports in North America. It is a hub for the movement of people and goods across the country, continent and around the globe. It has been named “Best Large Airport in North America serving more than 40 million passengers” for five years in a row by Airports Council International. Despite this honour, it has ambitious plans to continue to expand and improve its buildings and facilities.
In order to assist with this growth, the GTAA has a well-developed and high-functioning Legal Department. It is now seeking a Senior Legal Counsel who will be responsible for supporting the GTAA’s growing commercial leasing portfolio, as well as a wide variety of other real estate and commercial opportunities. In addition, there is a healthy mix of privacy and corporate/commercial work, including various commercial contracts, IT outsourcing and real estate transactions, as well as land-use planning, sponsorship, advertising, and litigation management. Working closely with the business groups as a trusted partner, you will have the opportunity to participate in strategic discussions. This hybrid position (in office approx. 3 times per week) is located at Toronto Pearson (accessible from downtown via UP) and will report to the Assistant General Counsel.
The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of commercial leasing and real estate experience gained from a well-respected firm or corporation. You approach your work with a commercial mindset and a sense of urgency. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as the ability to build relationships with the business groups will also be key components of your success. You will have a law clerk reporting to you so managerial experience and / or leadership qualities will be required. The ability to prioritize different tasks and the flexibility to interact with stakeholders from various departments will be necessary to succeed in this role.
